Help with setting up your workshop

Follow the setup guide for your first window or door quote, or find answers to common questions about materials, pricing and workshop output.

Workshop setup guide

Workshop pages require sign-in. This guide is available without an account.

  1. Start your free trial

Create your account and choose a module plan (Windows, Doors, or Windows + Doors). You need a payment card to start, but you will not be charged during your 30-day trial.

    Choose your plan
  2. Configure your workshop

In Workshop Settings, enter your Workshop Name, Default Markup % and VAT Rate. Set Manufacturing Cost Rates: Preparation, Moulding and Sanding are per metre; Joints is per joint, not per hour. Review finish rates, default timber section sizes and the Stock Timber Catalogue, then click Save Settings.

    Go to Workshop Settings
  3. Add stock materials

In Materials, click New Material and enter Name, Category, Unit and Cost per Unit (£), then Add. Use timber with unit m3, glass with m2, and panel with m2 for the configurator. Add the hardware you use with accurate supplier costs.

    Manage Materials
  4. Define your product types

Create the styles of windows and doors you make (e.g., 'Flush Casement', 'French Door'). Add default materials to their Bill of Materials (BOM) so they auto-populate when quoting.

    Set up Product Types
  5. Add your first customer

Before creating a quote, you need a customer profile to attach it to. Add their name, email, and contact details.

    Add a Customer
  6. Build a quote

In Quotes, click New Quote, select your Customer and click Create Quote. Open it and add a line, choose a Product Type, then set quantity, width and height in millimetres. Configure the frame, openings, glazing, finish and hardware, then save the line. Review dimensions and costs before sharing.

Frequently asked questions

What can I quote?
The Windows and Doors modules help you price bespoke timber joinery, including dimensions, materials, glazing or ironmongery, and the workshop information needed to fulfil an order.
What does the cutting list contain?
A quote can produce dimensioned timber cutting-list entries and workshop pack PDFs so your team can review the parts and materials before making.
What happens after the free trial?
A payment card is required at sign-up. There is no charge during the 30-day trial; billing starts monthly after 30 days unless you cancel before the trial ends.
How do I change or cancel my plan?
Go to Settings, scroll to the Subscription & Billing section, and click Manage billing to open the Stripe portal where you can update payment methods or cancel your plan.
Why is my cutting list empty?
If an order's cutting list is empty, the associated Product Type likely has no Bill of Materials (BOM) configured. Open Product Types to add frame timber, glass, hardware, and other components.
Why can't I see my materials in the configurator?
The configurator expects specific categories and units. Timber must be in the 'timber' category with a 'm3' unit. Glass must be 'glass' with 'm2'. Panels must be 'panel' with 'm2'.
Why can I view my workshop but not make changes?
If JoineryPro shows the read-only banner, choose a plan to enable changes. Use View plans in Settings or Choose a plan in the banner, and complete the trial or subscription checkout. Creating an account alone does not complete checkout.
Are manufacturing rates entered per hour?
No. Preparation, Moulding and Sanding are costs per linear metre, and Joints is a cost per joint. Set these in Settings under Manufacturing Cost Rates. Supplied finish rates are also per metre. Use your own workshop costs, not hourly rates in these fields.
How do I set the timber sizes used for cutting plans?
In Settings, review Default Timber Section Sizes (in mm) and the Stock Timber Catalogue. Add the cross-sections and stock bar lengths you buy. Keep at least one cross-section and one length, then click Save Settings.
How do I share a quote with my customer?
Open the quote and use Print or Export PDF. Review the document and send the PDF to your customer using your usual email service. Mark Sent updates the quote's status; it is not an email-send action.
How do I turn an accepted quote into workshop paperwork?
Open the quote, click Accept once the customer has agreed, then Convert to Order. On the order, use Print Workshop Sheets, Export PDF or Export Timber Order. Review the Workshop Drawings, Timber Cutting Plan and Cutting List before manufacturing.
